I’ve been thinking about people who don’t believe in Jesus. What do they think of certain hot-button Bible verses, such as when Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)?
Well, there’s no way I can know what anyone else thinks. But I still remember some of my thoughts about such things, before I started believing in Jesus and when I thought I was an atheist.
First, if someone doesn’t believe in Jesus because they don’t trust the Bible, well… they won’t care about anything in the Bible. It’s all fiction to them. Oh, they might get annoyed by some verses – I did before I started believing. But something you don’t believe in isn’t going to have much power over you.
But I’m more interested in those people who get really upset by such verses as John 14:6. I’ve known many people, even Christians, who refuse to believe what Jesus says in that verse. And I’ve struggled with it myself. How will heaven possibly be joyful for me if people I love aren’t there with me? Though I don’t understand, I choose to just trust God. He’ll work things out somehow.
But back to non-Christians who get really upset at the Bible when it tells them they’re not going to heaven: what is it that gets their emotions stirred up? Well, maybe they hope everyone will go to heaven, no matter what they believe. Or at least “good” people will be let inside.
But wait… that would mean that they believe in heaven, even if they don’t believe in Jesus. That thought gets my mind churning a bit, and this is what has been spit out as what I believe…
I believe the Holy Spirit of Jesus speaks to our soul, deep down below the surface of our mind. It’s our soul that hears and believes the truth of Jesus, God, and heaven. And it’s our soul that feeds our heart and mind with the belief in and craving for heaven.
So I’m happy for those people who get really upset at certain Bible verses, for it tells me they are listening to their soul. And it also shows me that Jesus loves them, for He’s reaching out to their soul in His own special way.

I think you nailed it about their souls, or more so the Holy Spirit tugging at their soul. I also believe that the Bible is not all roses & sunshine. While it’s a book of hope & encouragement, there are also many real, hard & difficult things to hear & accept. You cannot water down the word of God or pick & choose what you want. It’s all or nothing :/

I grew up believing in God and Jesus, attending church. What I didn’t know was how CRUCIAL reading scripture IS.
I married an agnostic 21 yrs ago, his was raised that way.
After I actually read God’s word about not being equally “yoked” I was mortified. That scripture means something.
15 yrs into marriage, he realized agnosticism wasn’t the answer…and believing in God & Jesus matters. This took yrs of prayer.
The narrow path is extremely challenging. The essence of OUR war is Ephesians 6:10-18 AND
The “good enough” principle is the enemy’s most popular strategy.

I’m agnostic. I think there’s definitely “something” or “someone” or some essence looking down at everything. But purely because I’m a big believer in science and questioning, and science already somewhat defies some aspects of religion, I don’t believe everything the Bible or the Testaments or the Quran or the Vedas say. I also don’t understand why some people are so set on picking just one religion to love. Why can’t I cherry pick my beliefs from multiple religion? Why can’t I love the tale of Ram and Sita of Hinduism and also cherish the story of Adam and Eve? Why must religion be so narrow minded? Those are just my thoughts on religion. Thanks for the post. Like you, I get excited when I see that someone is “searching” to know if there be someone called God – and I start praying that God will draw them by His Spirit and send someone they can “hear” across their path… because I absolutely know that God will do that to reach them.

It is not because someone is called god, that he or she is the God of Jesus Who is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of gods.
For sure those who are willing to look for God shall find His help. He will be there for guiding them along the way. He also has sent His only begotten son to show us the way. By following the teachings of this son of man, we shall find it easier to go on the right path shown by Jesus (who is not God but His son).

There are loads of Christians who still do not believe in Jesus being the son of God. They have taken Jesus as their god and refuse to take the words of him and his heavenly Father as the truth.
May we also remind you, because it looks like you believe all who believe in Jesus would go to heaven, that most of them would stay here on earth to populate the Kingdom of God on earth. They will be living in peace in the renewed paradise, according to God’s Plan.
