His Truth Will Set You Free

Listen to what Jesus says; “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32)

One final word about same-sex marriage – Calif. Prop. 8

God defined marriage…

“Haven’t you read,” (Jesus) replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’?” (Matthew 19:4-5)

Who are we to think we can change what God has established? Same-sex couples in California already have the same civil rights as married couples. But apparently that’s not enough. I’m not gay, but I am sympathetic. If I were deeply in love with someone of my own sex, I too would want to marry them. But that doesn’t make it right.

It’s never right to think we can overrule God. But tomorrow we will find out just how arrogant California really is.

First, my writing isn't about me. Don’t want the attention, don’t want to feed my ravenous ego (yep, I’m just a typical pride-plagued human). But I love writing - it gets me out of bed when it's way too dark, just so I can do some writing before heading off to work. I write because I’m passionate about God, Jesus, His Spirit, and His truth. And, I feel the Holy Spirit gets shortchanged in the world we call Christianity. The truth is sometimes lacking too.

  1. I was thinking about heaven and I became depressed, I had said to myself that if Heaven is as bad as earth I do not want to go there, and Jesus immediately spoke to me and said Paul, heaven is not at all like earth” it was really great to hear his voice, his assurance.. http://witnessed.wordpress.com/2008/11/03/as-many-as-are-led-by-the-spirit-of-god/

  2. Hi, I think its good to engage in dialogue because we learn something every time we do. I learned from you that the bible is beautiful and symbolic prose. I could offer to you , for instance, that no, same-sex couple do not have equal rights. There are approximately 1,000 rights and benefits NOT afforded to same-sex domestic partners. Many of them are in regards to inheritance laws, hospital visitation laws, and taxes. The fundamental things that affect families all the time. In our common language people often use the word “marriage” to describe the coming together of two concepts or ideas in unison and in general we understand the meaning. I see clearly that the word “marriage” has a broader symbolic meaning that easily encompasses loving, compassionate, devoted, relationships between human beings. It is a matter of equal rights and human dignity.

  3. A,
Well, that shows how much I don’t know. It’s not fair that these rights are not afforded to same-sex couples. But I don’t think the solution is to re-define marriage, for the reasons I mentioned in my post.
Thank you very much for helping me understand more.
